Our core goal for today was simple – drive to Glasgow, check in and be ready to meet up with Charles, Cathy, Cairsty and family in the early evening. Glasgow is less than an hour of driving from Stirling so there would be time for sightseeing at one end or both, depending on what we found.

Our wonderful record with the weather continued today. The forecast was for rain, it had rained overnight, and was overcast when we woke. It is overcast now and there have been clouds all day but our trip to Eigg was not rain affected.

It rained overnight and was still raining when we woke this morning. That was no surprise since it had been forecast to rain all day but we did wonder how it would affect our plan to cruise Loch Shiel. We were booked, though not paid, and had no alternatives in mind so it was going to happen regardless.

We were back on the road again so not often at risk of getting wet, but the covering of low clouds and occasional showers did obscure the views at time. We expected this to be another day of narrow twisting roads punctuated by stops to take in stunning views. It was that and more. I had included Applecross, our destination for tonight, because the North Coast 500 site that Charles had sent me to when I was planning mentioned that Applecross was accessed via the highest road pass in Britain....

We saw little sunshine today but not much rain either. The sky was mostly cloudy through the day with occasional glimpses of blue and sunshine until after dinner when we have full blue sky. We can hope that is an indicator for tomorrow. In the meantime we had another great and varied day despite the sky.

Our target for today was John O’Groats, as far north as it is possible to go on the island of Great Britain. That was a distance of about 200 km and the estimated driving time was a bit less than 3 hours. We expected that to be a bit longer with stops.

The weather forecast for today was wet. In fact, we had seen signs on the highway with a yellow warning predicting heavy rain. It was not going to be a day for extensive outdoor pursuits like long walks but was better suited to driving between mostly indoor venues. We had no fixed plan but wanted to see Loch Ness and...
