Last long day(s)

Majella and Emily had packed their suitcases the previous night at least in part because Emily was concerned to see if she had space for that special pair of hot pink shoes. I hadn’t been too worried about packing because I knew I had not added to my load since leaving home. We were in

Another day in Athens

Thursday was Majella’s big day at the conference. She was scheduled to present in a session that ran from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening but was up and out the door around 8:00 am to get the most out of her long conference day. We had agreed to wait for dinner until after she

Out and about in Athens

The plan for this day was to get out and about, see more of Athens and take advantage of the last day on the 4 day ticket we had bought at the Acropolis on Sunday.

Beach day

True to her word Emily was up for an earlier start – not the 6:30 that she had originally proposed but early enough to have us out the door around 8:00. For once we were gone before Majella. I had eaten the couple of peaches remaining from my purchase of the previous day before leaving

Hanging out in Athens

I had promised this day to Emily as a slow day when she could sleep late and catch up on some needed rest. Majella rose early, had breakfast in the hotel and headed off to her conference. I lay in until sometime after 8:00 when Emily stirred briefly and I told her I was slipping

Acropolis & Agora

Majella and I were up and ready for breakfast before Emily was properly awake. Since we hadn’t arranged for breakfast at the hotel, we let Emily lie in while we slipped a couple of doors up the street for cappucinos and sausages in (sweetish) pastry. The latter was evidently a local dish but not one

Rome to Athens

Saturday morning allowed us a slow start and a chance to catch our breath. Our flight was not scheduled to depart until 2:05 pm and check out from the Hilton was not until 12:00 noon. We allowed Emily to sleep and went for a late breakfast, checking out the hotel pool on the way. After

Roma

Friday was the last day of Majella’s conference in Prato. She had checked over the program and decided that she could get away at lunch time without missing anything of significance to her. She headed into the conference as usual. Emily and I waited until around 10:30 and then headed in to do some work

Firenze

Majella had her presentation scheduled for Thursday afternoon so she needed to be at the conference all day. She had breakfast at the hotel and headed off on the bus, a little later than on Wednesday but still reasonably early. I let Emily sleep a little longer but we we needed an earlier start than

Pisa

Wednesday morning was a slow start for Emily and me. The Palace Hotel was not within walking distance of the conference venue. Majella had found out that she could take the bus for 1 euro a day and rose early enough to have breakfast and catch the bus to the conference. I was up and
