This day was mostly about getting to our next destinations – Launceston for Peg and Dave, home for us. We had an early start and a longish day of waiting and flying.

We rode the ferry to Green Island where we snorkelled and walked in the forest. We saw some of the local wildlife in and out of the water.

We decided to reduce our driving today. Rather than drive 90 minutes or more each way to visit the Atherton Tablelands we opted to drive a bit less than an hour each way to Port Douglas.

We lived in Innisfail from 1984 until 1988 so we know and enjoy that area. No visit to FNQ with friends could be complete without sharing some of the places we remember so fondly.

We walked in the local area before heading up the range. At Kuranda we explored the shops and galleries and ate lunch. Afterward we went to see the Barron Falls before driving back to our apartment.

Our arrival in Cairns was delayed by 2 hours but fortunately travel on the Spirit of Queensland is comfortable, at least with rail beds, and we were able to relax and watch the world go by.
