About this site

Majella and I have enjoyed our travels over the years. We’ve taken many photographs and shared those with family and friends in various ways. Most often in recent years that has been on our Facebook feeds (Peter & Majella) and on Flickr.

While we were living in the USA during 2001-2002 Majella wrote a series of email newsletters to family and friends and I later put those with photographs on the web. They have moved around a bit but I eventually worked them into this blog. Those who might be interested can read Majella’s letters from the USA.

While on our first trip to Europe in 1995 we met an expatriate Australian couple who were travelling with grandchildren. Majella was inspired by that and we have travelled with our grandchildren as they turned 13. In 2006, 2008 and 2009 we travelled in Europe with Emily, Joel and Sam. For each of those trips we created a blog using Apple’s MobileMe but that site later disappeared. I’ve managed to rescue most of that content (other than some slideshows that depended on MobileMe galleries) and reassemble it in this blog.

When we first thought of travelling with our grandchildren we had just three of them and managed to combine those trips with academic conferences. Now we have nine grandchildren and are retired so conference travel is no longer a consideration. We travelled in Japan with Sophie in 2019. COVID-19 called a pause on trips we would otherwise have taken in 2020 and 2021 but we were able to travel to with Harry to New Zealand in 2022, with Callum to France and Switzerland in 2023, and with Lucas to Japan in 2024.

Some of our photographs from various trips have been posted on Flickr or Facebook pages for Majella or Peter. For various reasons some trips have not been blogged but there may be photographs in Flickr albums.

This site was created as an attempt to pull some of that together and, as a first effort, to document our 2012 trip to the USA and Canada. Since then we have managed to do more travel and much of that is documented here too.
