Farewell Bangkok
There was no reason to hurry this morning. Our agenda for today was check out at noon and pickup for transfer to the airport at 2 pm. Majella planned to have another massage sometime. We slept a little late and went for breakfast around 8 am. Afterward we packed and relaxed for a while.
I had thought we might go for coffee around 10 am but soon after 9:30 am Majella stepped out for an hour massage. Ben and I went out soon after for a walk. We went down Sukhumvit 11 and up 13 without finding anything to distract us.
When Majella returned we went for coffee at the French cafe, Chez LN (Helene) around the corner. Ben had a sundae. Majella and I had coffees and shared a millefeuille.
By 11:30 am we were back to our room making final adjustments to packing and checking we had not left anything. We checked out just short of noon and left our suitcases while we went for lunch.
On the way we checked the nearby 7-11s for interesting jams but had no luck. Perhaps there might be something at the airport.
Lunch was back at Chez LN. Ben had scrambled egg croissant with strawberry soda. Majella and I shared a cheese and cold meat platter with a glass of French wine – white for Majella and red for me. The platter had ham, prosciutto, salami, 4 kinds of cheese, apple, nuts, 2 kinds of pickles, pate, and dried figs. With 2 sorts of bread we were able to linger and enjoy a long lunch.
It was almost 1 pm when we got back to the hotel. We sat and waited in the lobby until our driver arrived around 1:40 pm. Traffic in the city was intense but once we reached the motorway we made good time and were at the airport just before 2:30 pm.
Checkin was open and the queue was short. Before long we had dropped our bags and were headed for security. That passed and passports checked we wandered through some shops. Majella was on the lookout for interesting jams and I had a couple of hundred baht that I had no reason to take home. She found no jam but bought something to help with the cough she has developed in the past couple of days.
My Qantas Club membership allowed just one guest in the Air France lounge. Majella thought we should not abandon Ben so she sent us to the lounge while she continued toward our gate.
Ben found some edible delights in the lounge – chocolate eclair, vanilla slice, blue macarons, Fanta, and coke. I found macarons, vanilla slice, sliders, cheese, and wine. We had a relaxing time before heading out to rejoin Majella a little after 5 pm. By then it was almost time to board and an effective end to our time in Bangkok.
