It’s taken four years…

This trip was originally planned as the first part of Majella’s grand 70th birthday expedition in 2020. We had planned to fly to Adelaide and on to Kangaroo Island for a few days to fill some gaps from our 2018 visit. On our return to Adelaide we would collect a rental camper van and take 2 weeks to drive through Clare Valley, York Peninsula, Port Augusta, Eyre Peninsula, around the southern coast, and across the Nullarbor to Perth. In Perth we were to meet up with Lynne and John Nunan for the second part of Majella’s grand tour to see the wildflowers around the southwest corner.

COVID-19 squashed that plan in 2020 and again in 2021. We were able to complete the second part of our plan in 2023 when we travelled around the southwest with Lynne and John.

Late last year Majella had news of a Sing Australia national gathering to be held in Adelaide in August 2024. That was all the prompting we needed to recycle our plan for the Nullarbor crossing. I began booking flights to Adelaide and home from Perth along with a rental camper van. It was not long before Sing Australia cancelled the gathering but we were already advanced with our planning and it had not been easy to find the one-way rental camper van. I adjusted our flight to Adelaide to arrive earlier and booked flights, accommodation, and rental car for a weekend on Kangaroo Island.

For a short time a couple of weeks ago we thought Majella’s sister, Angela, and her husband, Liam, might drive their van from Brisbane to meet us at Ceduna for the Nullarbor crossing. Sadly they had some issues that prevented them from making the trip at this time. Having followed their 2022 journey around the country we had been looking forward to their company.

Now the time to fly has almost arrived. We will be off on Friday morning.
