Yesterday was the effective end of our group tour around South Australia. Today we were to go our separate ways but first we had to make it back to Adelaide. Plans from there varied but we wanted to be sure nobody would miss a connection and that required an early start.

Today we reached the extremity of our travels. We drove south to Port Lincoln and, in the process, visited the half-way point across Australia.

To this point our exploration of South Australia had been confined to the southeast corner. We had driven a little more than 2000 km but had seldom been more than 300 km from Adelaide. Majella’s plan for today was no plan. Two nights in one location allowed for laundry with time to dry but mostly it would be time to relax and restore energies for the final few days.

Our route today took us further north and back to the Murray River which we had left as we drove eastward from Meningie. Majella’s research had revealed little to distract us for the first few hours so our plan was to drive through with as little delay as possible.

The town of Penola and Majella Wines were the two key destinations on our itinerary for today as we drove from Mount Gambier to Bordertown where we are staying tonight. Both are in the Coonawarra wine region and close together.

Majella’s plan for today was simple. We were to trickle down the coast along the Coorong and then along the Limestone Coast to Mount Gambier where we would halt for the night.
